Mountains of Bali’s North Coast: Explore peaceful rural Bali countryside on this trip across central mountains to visit Singaraja, the former capital. On the way we will visit the exotic fruit and vegetable market at Candikuning village, and the attractive mountain resort of Bedugul, overlooking serene Lake Beratan. Karangasem & the Beautiful East Coast: A pleasant excursion through eastern Bali to Karangasem and its Royal palace. On our way through a verdant landscape of rice fields, we will visit the Pura Besakih Mother Temple - set high on the slopes of Mount Agung. Lunch will be en route at Candidas or Putung, followed by a visit to Tirtagangga Water Gardens and the Bali Aga village of Tengana, with its unique Ikat hand weaving. Highlights of this tour will be a visit to the Goa Lawah temple, uniquely set in a bat cave located on the coast, and afterwards to the 18th century Kertagosa court of justice building at Klungkung. Monkey Forest & Tanah Lot Temple: This afternoon tour will take you west to the spectacular Seren Royal Temple at Mengwi with its impressive architecture dating from 1634 and surrounded by a moat with multi-roofed shrines and intricately carved wooden gates.We continue on to the sacred Monkey Forest at Kedaton, home to three troupes of Balinese Macaques which never fail to amuse. Your day culminates at the famous holy temple of Tanah Lot, perched dramatically on top of large black lava rock some 200 metres offshore. Sea snakes at the temple’s base are believed to be the guardians of the temple from evil spirits and intruders. The beautiful sunset beyond the black lava towers of this sacred 16th century temple is a fitting end to the day. Kecak & Fire Dance: No visit to Bali would be complete without seeing some of the island's colourful and renowned traditional dances. The captivating Kecak (Monkey) and Fire Dance are performed at sunset in the small village of Batubulan, and these tell a story from the Hindu Ramayana epic accompanied by a hundred strong male ‘choir’ of men and boys sitting in concentric circles who slide into trance as they chant and sing in lively accompaniment. The performance culminates with the Fire dance, where an entranced man on a wooden hobby horse runs with bare feet through hot ashes from burning coconut husks. Eerie shadows cast by the light of the torches and the chorus of voices make this a spectacular and mesmerizing experience.
